The pool
Why this pool made the list
Acro's main pool is a saltwater infinity pool set into the cliff above Mononaftis Bay, on Crete's north coast. The edge runs out towards the Cretan Sea, with a terrace of flat loungers and a shaded cabana at one end and the resort's stone-and-earth suites stepping down the rock behind it. It's an outdoor, seasonal pool, and there's a second, indoor pool for cooler days.
Towels, loungers and parasols are included, and the CIRCLE pool bar keeps drinks within reach of the water. Most suites and villas come with a private pool of their own, several with an infinity edge, so the shared pool is as sociable or as empty as you want it. Here's the thing: none of the pools is confirmed as heated, so plan on this as a summer-season swim rather than a winter one. Adults only, so the terrace stays calm.

The stay
Beyond the pool
Acro Suites sits on the rocky headland of Mononaftis, just outside Agia Pelagia on Crete's north coast, a few steps from Mononaftis Beach and 28 km from Heraklion airport. Parking is free on site and the resort runs an airport shuttle.
Every suite looks at the sea. The rooms are built from rough stone and smooth plaster in earthy tones, with terraces, outdoor furniture, a coffee machine and a kettle, and some are carved into the rock as cave suites. Categories run from Wave and Loft Suites to Cave Suites, Gaia Suites and two villas.
Food is spread across three restaurants: Cremnos for Greek cooking, UMI for Japanese-Peruvian plates and Eleonas for Cretan dishes among the olive trees, with breakfast served continental, buffet or à la carte. The Bath House hammam, a sauna, a gym and daily yoga in the Asana shala make up the wellbeing side. Worth knowing: it's adults only, with no children accepted, and pets aren't allowed either.

Questions people ask
Is the pool heated?
Neither the outdoor infinity pool nor the indoor pool is confirmed as heated. The outdoor pool runs with the summer season, and the indoor pool is the option on cooler days.
Can children stay?
No. Acro Suites is adults only and children aren't accepted. Cots and extra beds aren't available.
Do the suites have private pools?
Most do. The suites and villas come with a pool of their own, and the two-bedroom Acroterra villa has a private infinity pool with 180-degree sea views.
Is parking available?
Yes, free public parking on site with no reservation needed, and the resort also offers an airport shuttle.
The infinity pool sits at the tip of a rocky headland, so the view from the water takes in 180 degrees of Mirabello Bay: islets, the mountains of eastern Crete and the open sea. Loungers are set into the shallow water itself, and below it all is the resort's own sandy cove. Three suite types add a pool of their own, and in the Infinity Lagoon Suites that pool opens onto a shared lagoon running along the rooms.
Spinalonga sits right across the water from Cayo's three outdoor pools, infinity pools set on the hillside above Plaka. Most rooms and suites add a private pool on their own terrace: every category except the entry-level Superior Room has one, and the Grand Suite has two. Down in the Armonia Spa there's also a large indoor pool beside the sauna and steam room.
From the infinity pool at Seaside you look out over the Cretan Sea, with the resort stepping down a rocky headland above Mononaftis Bay. Three outdoor pool areas spread across the terraces, a rooftop pool among them, all ringed by palms, timber cabanas and thatched parasols. The Action pool by the Pelagos bar was renovated with saltwater.
