It's a fresh-water outdoor pool with a shallow end, ringed by sun loungers and umbrellas, and the pool-view balconies and ground-floor terraces look straight down onto it. It opens with the summer season, from May to October.
With only 18 apartments around it, this is a small, low-key pool, open from 09:00 to 20:00. The sea is about 50 m away, so it's easy to split the day between the beach and a swim back at the apartment. Here's the thing: the pool isn't heated, and the water is at its coolest at the start and end of the season.

The stay
Kallitsakis Beach is a small, family-run apartment hotel in Platanias, on the coast west of Chania. Platanias Beach is a minute's walk away, the village square about 300 m, and Chania town around 11 km east. Gorgona Beach and the church of Agios Dimitrios are both under 2 km.
The 18 units run from studios for two to a maisonette for up to five, and every one has a kitchenette and a balcony or terrace, some facing the pool and others the garden. There's no restaurant, so you'll be eating out in the village or cooking for yourself.
Worth knowing: the hotel closes from November to April, and towels for the pool may not be provided, so bring your own. Parking nearby is reserved in advance at a small daily charge.
