The pool
Why this pool made the list
Palms and rows of grey loungers frame every pool at SENTIDO Aequora, and there are four of them between the low white blocks, the main ones heated. The main pool has a shallow end and a pool bar and stays open all year. One pool is kept for adults as a quiet relaxation pool, while children get their own pool with a slide next to a splash park full of water buckets and spouts.
Loungers, pool towels and pool toys are included. The kids' club takes 4 to 11-year-olds and there's a programme for teens from 13 to 16, so the family pools are the lively side of the resort. Adults who want calm head for the relaxation pool and the chill-out bar. With the main pool open all year, it works for a winter-sun week as well as the summer holidays.

The stay
Beyond the pool
SENTIDO Aequora sits at the Los Pocillos end of Puerto del Carmen, about 200 m from the sandy Playa de los Pocillos and 5 km from Lanzarote Airport. The whitewashed complex was last renovated in 2021 and has 398 rooms, mostly junior suites, each with a balcony or terrace looking over the pools, the garden or the surroundings.
There are two buffet restaurants with show cooking, one of them reserved for adults and teens from 13, plus a Spanish à la carte restaurant. You can book half board, all-inclusive or ultra all-inclusive. Beyond the pools there's a tennis court, fitness and yoga classes, billiards and a small beauty centre for massages.
Worth knowing: massages, the in-room safe and minibar refills cost extra, and this is a busy family resort, so the adults-only pool is where the quiet is.

Yes: the main pools are heated, and the main pool is open all year.
Is there a pool just for adults?
Yes, a relaxation pool reserved for adults, away from the family pools and the splash park.
Is it a good choice with children?
Children of all ages are welcome, with a kids' pool and slide, a splash park, a kids' club for ages 4 to 11 and a teen programme for 13 to 16.
Can I book all-inclusive?
Yes: half board, all-inclusive and ultra all-inclusive are all offered.
Two small heated pools sit on the terraces between the white bungalows, both looking straight out over the Atlantic. The main pool is for adults; right beside it is a smaller children's pool with a shallow end and a planted island in the middle. Both are open all year, so a winter swim is on the cards too.
The beach is right there: Lava Beach sits on the promenade above Matagorda's dark volcanic sand, and its two freshwater pools curve between palms and white loungers just back from the sea. Both are heated all year, usually to around 26°C, and there's a shallow kids' pool beside them. Water massage loungers line part of the edge.
The villa's private pool runs along a pale deck beside the white pergola, with a wall of dark lava stone closing off the garden behind it and the volcanic hills around Yaiza rising beyond. It's a saltwater pool, heated and open all year, and it has its own cover.
